Kansas, Winning With Wind
Despite the economic recession, Kansas is bringing in business and prospering. Due to a pro-business government and lawmakers who are passing legislation to make doing business in Kansas more appealing than ever, the state has found itself in an enviable position. Wind Energy is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing industries in the state. Kansas' wind-generating capacity recently surpassed 1,000 megawatts, making it one of the nation's top 10 states for wind energy production.

Premier Processing to Open Wichita Facility
Premier Processing, a startup metal finishing company, will establish a 36,000 square-foot facilty in Wichita, officials announced today.
The company is investing more than $3.8 million in capital, including manufacturing machinery and equipment, and plans to launch in early fall.

NCO Group nears completion of 725-employee expansion at Lenexa facility
NCO Group, Inc., a leader in business process outsourcing solutions, is nearing the end of a 725-employee expansion at its Lenexa facility, where the company handles various contract inbound customer service activities, officials announced today.
The company began phasing in the new hires in 2008, when it also confirmed plans for a $5.6 million capital investment at its Lenexa facility.

Sara Lee Announces New Sliced Meat Manufacturing Facility

Siemens Energy chooses Hutchinson as site of new wind turbine equipment factory
Siemens Energy has selected Hutchinson as the site of a new wind turbine equipment production facility, state and company officials announced today. The operation is expected to create an estimated 400 green-collar jobs and will be the first large-scale wind turbine equipment factory in Kansas, which is ranked third in the nation for wind energy resource potential.

The Home Depot Selects Topeka for New Distribution Center
The Home Depot, the world’s largest home improvement retailer, will build a 465,500 square foot distribution center in the Central Crossing Commerce Park, creating several hundred jobs over the next few years. 2008 State New Economy Index rates Kansas 8th in the nation for "Gazelle jobs"
The 2008 State New Economy Index rated Kansas 8th in the nation for "Gazelle jobs," along with "top mover" ratings in many categories that reflect on the state's technology sector. Nationally, Kansas' overall ranking improved and moved to #31- according to the report released by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) during Global Entrepreneurship Week.
